The Ration Ticket

Excerpt from the diary of Jules Flegmon.

2 July . -- Since I thought Elisa was traveling, I didn't see any reason to show myself. But I had a doubt, and I telephoned her at home. Elisa declared that she didn't know me and had never met me. As best I could, I explained that she had spent, without realizing it, some intoxicating days with me. Amused, but not at all convinced, she consented to see me on Monday. I am mortally worried.
